Military action including Iraq
The most solemn responsibility of an MP is the decision of whether to send British troops to war. I am not a pacifist and was one of the first to urge military intervention to save people in Bosnia in the early 1990s.
The invasion of Iraq was different, and despite the immense pressure exerted at the time, I spoke out and opposed it. I am glad that I did, and think that history will agree that those of us who were and are sceptical about the use of force were right.
